Death certificate
Civil registration document drawn up by the town hall after the death is declared. It is the official proof of death, required for almost every formality.
Not to be confused with the medical death certificate, written by the doctor who certifies the death: the certificate is used to declare the death, the record is its proof. In France, copies are requested from the town hall of the place of death.
